Na dishini kaaz Yellow Eagle Women, my English name is Carol McCorrister and a citizen of the Peguis First Nation with work experience in Child Welfare, Counselling, and mental health sectors since 1987. I hold a Bachelor of Social Work degree, with 30 years’ experience ranging from Addiction Specialist, Case Management, Intake and Process, Crisis Response, program development/evaluation, and staff management.   

 

As part of my career, I lived and worked in British Columbia for four years, as a Practice Manager and Acting Executive Director. During this time I worked with the Haisla, Tsimshian, and Tahltan Nations. Since returning to Manitoba in 2017, I have worked with many First Nations communities in the areas of mental health and wellness, and I currently service as Board Director for First Peoples Wellness Circle. Throughout my career, I have developed extensive experience and skills that support effective program development, service delivery, collaborative practice, and building strong partnerships with First Nations communities, as well as federal and provincial governments. My work is grounded in helping ensure that First Nations receive culturally appropriate and culturally sensitive services.
